Record snow fell in Japan's Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture and vehicles were stuck on several highways for several hours and the bullet train service was also affected.
More than 20,000 homes were also without power due to snowfall in Niigata.
The Japanese Meteorological Department has predicted that snow will continue in Tohoku and Hokuriku regions today.
The Meteorological Department has also advised the citizens to be alert for traffic and other issues.
